CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION

North Hopkins ISD believes it is essential to provide a caring and creative learning environment that promotes excellence, fosters integrity, and encourages each student to reach his or her academic, extracurricular, and social potential.

Students receive a well-rounded education firmly established upon the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Teachers use the curriculum as a guide for the school year to ensure consistency throughout classrooms and across grade levels. Where the curriculum is the “what”, the instruction is the “how”. Teachers receive professional development each year to stay abreast of best practices and new technologies to engage students in the delivered instruction. Formative and summative assessment data is utilized to drive and differentiate instruction based on individual student needs and learning styles.

NHISD is committed to designing an exemplary curriculum that is academically rich, challenging, and prepares our students to excel in the 21st Century. Such a curriculum promotes authentic, collaborative, and reflective learning. Students are expected to be self-directed, able to manage complexity, think critically, communicate in multiple modes, and solve problems.

Curriculum and Instruction Mission

To work with administrators and teachers to provide and support:

  • a guaranteed and viable curriculum
  • best practices in assessment and instruction
  • job embedded professional development

Curriculum and Instruction Goals

  • Provide a quality standards-based curriculum that is vertically and horizontally aligned grades K-12
  • Ensure a common curriculum-based assessment program that will help teachers determine student progress and achievement
  • Provide teachers with the tools and skills needed to regularly analyze student achievement data

The TEKS Resource System (TRS) is the basic curriculum guide for English Language Arts/Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies. This curriculum resource is a "living guide" and is constantly being revised and updated based on student needs and state standards.
